Abstract

Way Ela Flash Flood occurred on July 25, 2013 had caused great damage and losses, yet induced only three people missing and three others injured. The research aimed to assess the resiliency of the community of Negeri Lima village and factors that inluenced it as well as efforts undertaken in order to minimize the impact of the disaster. This research predominantly applied qualitative methods in order to collect data through interview and desk review. The data obtained in this research were qualitative data. To fortify it, researcher also applied quantitative approach using scoring to tone up qualitative results. The scoring was applied by associating the results of qualitative data obtained in accordance with the characteristics of resilient community’s indicators. The result indicated that community resilience towards Flash Flood Disaster in Negeri Lima village was overall rated moderate. Moreover, the community of Negeri Lima showed characteristics of resilience ranging from anticipation, protection and adaptability to resiliency. This research also showed that community resilience of Negeri Lima Village was inluenced by external and internal factors. External factors included environment and the government, while the internal factors included enthusiasm and prevailing local wisdom. In order to minimize impacts of disaster, the role of government and society, including NGOs is indeed contributing to community resilience in Negeri Lima.
